Mastering Rohtang Pass Access for Your Guests
Situated at an altitude of 3,978 meters (13,050 feet), Rohtang Pass is the crown jewel of Himachal tourism, offering dramatic panoramas of Pir Panjal mountain ranges and perpetual snowfields. However, access is strictly regulated by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to protect fragile alpine ecosystems.
Permit Quotas and Booking Rules
- Daily Quota Limits: Only 1,200 vehicles (800 petrol and 400 diesel) are permitted to cross Gulaba barrier toward Rohtang Pass each day.
- Tuesday Maintenance Closure: Rohtang Pass is closed every Tuesday for road maintenance and clearance work by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Never schedule Rohtang on a Tuesday!
- Commercial Green Fee: An environmental congestion charge of INR 550 per vehicle is mandatory alongside state green taxes.
